(a) Hertford to Ware Lock

HERTFORD TO WARE LOCK
The fishery starts at Folly Bridge, Bull Plain, Hertford, near to the Barge Public House, it runs behind Waitrose Supermarket, past the area known as the allotments to a spill weir and marina. There is a gentle flow along this stretch of the river that lends itself to trotting with a stick float as well as pole fishing, for the roach and dace, as well as the feeder for some large bream, that like the flow.
From the marina there is long lock cut with some purpose built platforms. This is a shallower section that flows only when the lock opens, ideal for the young anglers. The lock cut has plenty of small fish, along with some large carp near the lock and the moored boats. This section is also a good backup when the main river is in flood.
From the lock cut the river runs straight until it does a right hand bend as the River Beane joins it. From the bend to the pump house over the New river there is a large shoal of bream to target, this section and the rest of the stretch down to Ware lock also has a number of swims with cover that produce chub, as well as the Lea’s roach, dace and perch.
The New River is private fishing controlled by Palmers Green AS.
